University Partnerships

The AFN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dalhousie University to jointly work on fisheries research over the next several years. In fall 2010, AFN and Dalhousie jointly submitted a letter of intent for a Social Science and Humanities Research Council grant with academic partners from Vancouver Island University, University of Guelph, and various First Nation technicians and researchers. The
Letter of Intent was accepted and will develop a multi-year proposal with partner
groups for an in-depth research program aimed at informing better knowledge use in aquatic resource governance structures. AFN and Dalhousie will assess jointly pursuing other fisheries projects in the near future. AFN is interested in establishing wider academic partnerships that will support scholarships and bursaries for First Nations students in the field of fisheries.
